All,

The early bird discount for MQ Technical Conference v2.0.1.3 (MQTC)
expires on July 23rd, 2013 (Tuesday night). So hurray and purchase
your tickets before the early bird discount expires.

MQTC will be the largest conference in the world solely dedicated to
IBM's WebSphere MQ.

=> 70 MQ Technical Sessions over 3 days
=> 14 speakers - 7 of which graciously supplied by IBM US & UK
=> $249.00 is the early bird price - $199 is the group pricing (5+ people)

Where else can you get 3 days of MQ technical training for a rock
bottom price of $249.00? As they say, I can't do this without the
help of the MQ community.

This is the first time it's been put on.

So, nobody has been to this before.

I am reasonably confident that the speakers and sessions will provide
value. Caveat, I am a speaker.

Thank you,

I have never been, but the people who are presenting are the ones who write and maintain MQ. The IBM MQ consultants for both Distributed and z/OS will be there.
If you are doing any kind of MQ Admin or development, this is the place to get your questions answered and meet the people whose names are in the Red books and on the emails from this list server.

I highly recommend it, even having not attended before.

Jack

Hello Penny,

This is the first year for MQ Technical Conference - it was my bright
idea. I have asked all speakers (vendors & non-vendors) to have
technical content for their sessions (no sales stuff - or at least,
minimal sales stuff for vendors). I set the price of the conference
at $299.00 ($249 for early bird which expires today) and it will
hopefully cover the costs of food for everybody and the conference
rooms. I am not doing this to make money or else I would be charging
$2000. :) For those companies that have several people who need
training in MQ, yes, there is a super cheap group rate of $199 per
attendee (5+ people).

Right now, I have 70 sessions to be held in 5 conference rooms to be
given by 14 speakers. Each session will be given twice except for a
couple of sessions - that way everyone will get a chance to attend
all sessions. If you look at the sessions and/or schedule web page,
MQTC will have sessions covering MQ on AIX, HP-UX, IBM i (OS/400),
Linux, Solaris, Windows and z/OS. I almost forgot, I made the
sessions 75 minutes long (rather than 60), so that the extra 15
minutes could be used for questions & answers.

MQTC will not have any opening acts or rock groups performing. I
will do a 15 minute opening remarks and then it is straight to the MQ
sessions for 3 days. My goal is to educate or enhance attendees
knowledge of MQ.

Food: Breakfast, lunch and snack breaks are including with the price
of the conference (and there will be Hors d'Oeuvres at 5:30PM in the
vendor area). Yes, that's right, you get fed and trained for 3 days
for only $249 (early bird price).

Capitalware (my company) is a Platinum Sponsor of MQTC. I would
like to thank Cressida Technology, Nastel Technologies, Avada
Software and IBM for being Gold Sponsors of MQTC. For those people
checking, IBM is not listed on MQTC's web site yet - they have been
invoiced but the name does not appear until we get paid (rules are
rules, even for IBM).

So, why am I doing this? I have asked many, many IBM conference
people over the last 5-6 years to bring back the MQ & CICS Technical
Conference but it has fallen on deaf ears. So I decided to put my
money where my big mouth is. This is a scary and expensive venture
but sometimes you just need to take the leap.

So, if you are thinking about attending MQTC, please buy a ticket and
if I get a good response then I will make it an annual event.

And maybe even consider having one in Europe too? I applaud your efforts Roger & wish you & your MQTC well. I think the demise of IBM's MQ & CICS Technical Conference could almost be considered a crime against the community! Now all we need is to re-introduce CICS into the picture ..... :)

FWIW if it comes to Europe and I'm not already committed elsewhere, I'll be
there. Yesterday I emailed the WTC folks to ask if they had a commitment to
run that event this year, whether the dates and locations had been set, and
when the call for speakers might go out. I was aghast to hear back that
WebSphere Technical Conference - the European T&M by name until a year or so
ago - will NOT run this year. At all. More crime against the community and
a big loss for the EU contingent in particular.

Roger, I don't know how much registration you got from overseas for the US
event but if ever there was a year to try out the event in the EU this would
be it. The WTC normally runs in October and they've held it in Vienna,
Barcelona and Berlin that I've attended. Lately they seem to return to
Berlin each year and personally I'd love to try a new city. (Nothing
against Berlin but moving the event around was part of the fun.) Maybe this
is an idea to explore further.

Hi Grant and T.Rob,

Having a European version of MQTC is a really cool idea but I think I
should get at least one conference under my belt before I jump and do
one across the pond. :)

Doing 2 events in the fall would be a little over the top plus I
still need to run Capitalware.

"IF" there was a European MQTC, how about March or April or
May. Note: Impact is usually at the end of April, so I would need to
be careful about scheduling or else I would not have any IBM speakers!!!

Sadly, I have never been to Europe, so what cities are friendly to
people attending conferences? (not what cities do a lot of conferences)

Couldn't help but notice this in Roger's portion of the email regards
sponsors:
"... For those people checking, IBM is not listed on MQTC's web site yet -
they have been invoiced but the
name does not appear until we get paid (rules are rules, even for IBM). ..."

Too Funny!! Love it. .
... Great Idea on the conference by the way.

Roger - I have only attended conferences in Como (Italy), Barcelona and Dusseldorf and all have been great cities. I would have to leave that up to you to decide, but if I had to rate those 3, I would choose Como, Barcelona, Dusseldorf. Others will likely disagree!
