Discussion:
CSQX500I not suppressed for Client Connections

MQ List,

We have 6 queue managers running on different LPARs. All of the queue
managers have Clients connected to them. But we see CSQX500I
messages for Client channels in one queue manager only. We browsed the
logs for all other Queue Managers and found no CSQX500I/CSQX501I
messages related to Client channels. Although, there are CSQX500I/501I for
Sender and Receiver channels. We spent our time comparing all queue
managers and channels attributes and parameters but found no differences.
We asked our MVS team to check OPS/MVS and MPFLIST. They have nothing
coded for this message.

Is anyone aware of what we might be missing on this one LPAR or in parms for
this one queue manager that prevents CSQX500I suppression ?
Thank you, Reg.

SVRCONN Channels
If your particular concern is the CSQX500I and CSQX501I messages
produced in the CHINIT joblog in response to the starting and stopping
of CLNTCONN / SVRCONN then also review the following APAR. APAR PK02576
for V530, PQ93792 for V531 and rolled into base V6, provides code in the
CHINIT which recognises a new CHINIT service parameter (CHISERVP) and,
when it is set, suppresses these messages entirely saving both CPU and
log space. Once this fix has been installed, it is activated with a
CHISERVP setting of x'20'.

You would check the Master using "DISPLAY QMGR CHISERVP" to see if this
setting has a x'20' set.

I would b e more concerned with the overhead being caused by that many
connect disconnects, I believe you can get rid of the message but not
the overhead that's caused by a poorly written client program.

Yeah, it has been really quiet last day or two but yours got through so I
assume there's nothing broken causing the slowdown. Maybe everyone is

Considering the return address you gave, I'd expect you to wear your

Come naked, Bobbee. Trust me, you'll fit in quite nicely in the queue at Heathrow, as well as on the streets of London. They won't ask any questions. Or at least too many. Don't know how you're going to manage getting past the Homeless Security folks in the US, maybe you can dress beforehand, then shove the rags down the pot on the airplane.

But, be sure to wear a top hat when you arrive. And tie. This is important. The Brits place high importance on those things. I don't know why.

The ticket's are on their way.

Come naked, Bobbee. Trust me, you'll fit in quite nicely in the queue at Heathrow, as well as on the streets of London. They won't ask any questions. Or at least too many. Good point. There are no easy WMQ tools to judge what client
application is driving connections due to bad code or slow response.

I would b e more concerned with the overhead being caused by that many
connect disconnects, I believe you can get rid of the message but not
the overhead that's caused by a poorly written client program.

You would check the Master using "DISPLAY QMGR CHISERVP" to see if this
setting has a x'20' set.

Subject: CSQX500I not suppressed for Client Connections

Although, there are CSQX500I/501I
for
Sender and Receiver channels. We spent our time comparing all queue
managers and channels attributes and parameters but found no
differences.
We asked our MVS team to check OPS/MVS and MPFLIST. They have nothing
coded for this message.

Is anyone aware of what we might be missing on this one LPAR or in parms
for
this one queue manager that prevents CSQX500I suppression ?
Thank you, Reg.

Does this help (maybe this is applied and activated on those LPARs/queue
managers that don't produce the CSQX500I/CSQX501I messages but is not
applied and activated on the LPAR/queue manager that does produce the
CSQX500I messages)?

MQ client channel shows frequent CSQX500I/CSQX501I or AMQ9002/AMQ9001

Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem(Abstract)
You have a client channel that is shows the following messages in the
CHIN joblog every .02 seconds:

+CSQX500I @CSQ1 CSQXRESP Channel CLIENT.TO.CSQ1 started
+CSQX501I @CSQ1 CSQXRESP Channel CLIENT.TO.CSQ1 is no longer active

The equivalent messages in AMQERRnn.LOG for a client connecting to a
distributed platform are:

AMQ9002 Channel program started.
AMQ9001 Channel program ended normally.

For VSE, messages in SYSTEM.LOG are:

What causes these informational messages to be displayed? They can fill
the message logs and cause additional CPU overhead.

Cause
The client application is connecting to (MQCONN or MQCONNX) and
disconnecting from (MQDISC) the queue manager using a client channel.

Resolving the problem
To minimize the number of messages: change the client to connect and
disconnect less frequently.

Do this by performing more MQPUT and/or MQGET operations between MQCONN
and MQDISC if appropriate to the function of the application.

If you choose this option, be careful that the client application is
"well behaved" and does not stay connected indefinitely. It will take up
resources and could become "long-running" (CSQJ160E) depending on
syncpoint options. For clients connecting to a z/OS(r) queue manager,
the default syncpoint option is MQGMO_SYNCPOINT and MQPMO_SYNCPOINT.
This means the application needs to either commit or explicitly set
MQGMO_NO_SYNCPOINT / MQPMO_NO_SYNCPOINT to avoid becoming long-running.

WebSphere(r) MQ for z/OS(r) V6 has additional timeout function for
clients, using the DISCINT and HBINT settings, that V5 does not have.

For distributed platforms, see 1194427 for client timeout function for
V5.3 and higher or suppress the messages

For WebSphere MQ for z/OS, contact the support center for instructions
to implement the message suppression provided by PQ93792.

For WebSphere MQ for the distributed platforms, follow the instructions
in 1161118.

Subject: CSQX500I not suppressed for Client Connections

MQ List,

We have 6 queue managers running on different LPARs. All of the queue
managers have Clients connected to them. But we see CSQX500I messages
for Client channels in one queue manager only. We browsed the logs for
all other Queue Managers and found no CSQX500I/CSQX501I messages related
to Client channels. Although, there are CSQX500I/501I for Sender and
Receiver channels. We spent our time comparing all queue managers and
channels attributes and parameters but found no differences.
We asked our MVS team to check OPS/MVS and MPFLIST. They have nothing
coded for this message.

Is anyone aware of what we might be missing on this one LPAR or in parms
for this one queue manager that prevents CSQX500I suppression ?
Thank you, Reg.

Thanks all,

We changed the CHISERVP setting to x'20' and are now suppressing the
client channel start message.

They won't let you take the pitchfork on the plane so you better pack
it well...

Personally the next time I travel OS, I'm not taking anything, just my
ticket in my hand and the clothes on my back, I'm just going to buy
what I need when I arrive and then I can get through quicker :) ...
will that work?
