Discussion:
Upgrading to WebSphere MQSeries (WMQ) V7.5.0.2

I just upgraded two queue managers to WMQ 7.5.0.2. This queue manager is also used by a couple of WebSphere Application Servers (WAS) running V6.1.0.35. These WAS instances use a CCDT to connect to the queue managers and so I copied over a new CCDT to the client side. I left the client jars that came with WAS alone. This is working but I thought that one should not use a lower level client version with a CCDT created at a higher level.

We will not be upgrading WAS for another couple of months even though it is out of support.

Does anyone see any issues with this configuration?

Hi Lawrence,

I think you are right about potential problems here. I would not expect an old client version to reliably process a new version CCDT.

That said, it will probably work (and seems to for you so far) providing you don’t actually set any of the new version attributes of the CLNTCONN channels. I would expect it to fail if you did set values for any of the new attributes.

Regards,

Neil

Lawrence,
I found this in the Info Center:

"If a WebSphere MQ MQI client uses CCDT to connect to a queue manager, the CCDT must be at a version less than, or equal to that of the client.
You can connect to a queue manager with an earlier WebSphere MQ Client or an earlier CCDT."
